Video & Audio
Throughout the development of the actions of our project we have made some images to assess the monitoring. Select one of the galleries to see its content:
- How the AFDS works - Gustavo M. Monroy
The Autonomous Fluid Discharge System (AFDS) is a device that works automatically and does not require of energy supply. Our team is looking into the effectiveness of undertaking reforestation works reducing environmental impact by cutting down on CO2 emissions. Gustavo, hydric systems specialist engineer, explains how the AFDS works.
- AFDS Presentation - Gilberto ITC Coordinator
Today our colleague Gilberto, project coordinator for ITC (Canarian Institute of Technology) explains how the AFDS seeks to overcome some challenges that can't be met by fog water collectors by themselves in certain terrains.
Combining different sustainable technologies can make reforestation activities a highly efficient and autonomous task that will help us deliver with greater success.
- CREAF Presetation
Today we introduce our partner CREAF who will be overseeing scientific advice and reforestation monitoring. Vicenç in an environmentalist with an extensive experience in life projects and we have worked together in the past and we are sure he will make an important contribution to Life-Nieblas success.
- Mchinery use and maintenance
As important as capturing water, and often overlooked, is the ground work behind it. Field conditioning and preparation for the reforestation season is a crucial part for an effective strategy in habitat recovery and forest management. . Our colleague Pepe, tool-engineer of the groundwork crew, tells us more about how they use these tools in the field and the importance of safety and maintenance procedures.
- Wind Tunnel
One of our project goals is to improve the efficiency of the traditional design of Fog Water Collectors (FWC). In this regard, our partners from ICIA and ULL are working in the modeling and lab testing of FWC prototypes, trying out different materials , fog density and wind speeds.
The result of these tests will provide a FWC with higher collecting efficiency and lower infrastructure requirements.
We will keep a close eye in what our partners will develop!
- Fog Water Collectors & Irrigation systems
Saúl, project technician gives a brief summary of what the irrigation systems will look like for Life-Nieblas and how water will be supplied in this area.
- Rai, Gran Canaria Council
Rai, one of the Coordinator of the Natural Landscape where Life-Nieblas takes place, gives an insight of what Gran Canaria Council role is in this innovative project.
- Nursery relevance in forest survival
Eli, Nursery Supervisor, has kindly talked to Life-Nieblas and explained why her nursery is essential in the survival of our forest. She tells us about two different methods of tree replication: seed germination and wild seedling picking. This delicate yet relevant job, can draw the difference between a successful or unsuccessful reforestation plan. Osorio Nursery is one of the two nurseries in Gran Canaria helping Life-Nieblas to get the trees they need to plant 36ha of bare ground
- Andre, CIM Viseu Dão Lafões
CIM Viseu Dão Lafões has a forest management plan that goes from local action to international cooperation in a great effort for improving natural habitats and forest resilience. Andre introduces their purpose and how they work along with Life-Nieblas and the European Comission
- Sandra, Carregal do Sal action area
Our colleagues in Portugal are taking actions to recover their habitats and so they have taken in partners' role as first replicators of Life-Nieblas' project in an international scale. this collaboration brings to light the necessity of a global action when tackling environmental change issues. We will work together towards a greener and more sustainable future!!
- Seedlings picking
Seedling selection and nursery stock-up is a highly important part of the reforestation process. Our specialised team, works meticulously to only find the healthiest individuals that will become our forest of the future. They have an excellent ecology knowledge of our native species, where, how and when to get them is essential when replicating seeedlings at the nursery greenhouses.
- Deutschland Tv takes notice of our project
Recently, a German Tv has come to Gran Canaria to find out more about fog water collection techniques and why Life-Nieblas is following such method.
